Destin Army Recreation Area is located in the heart of Old Destin, near Harbor Walk Village, at 557 Calhoun Avenue. This gated resort is conveniently situated between Pensacola and Panama City, on 15 acres along the Choctawhatchee Bay. Just minutes from the legendary emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico, the resort is open year-round to active duty and retired military personnel, their families, and Department of Defense civilians.
Accommodations include two- and three-bedroom villas, one-bedroom suites, hotels, studios and an RV camping site. All are non-smoking, and some are pet-friendly and handicap accessible. Guests of the Destin Army Recreation Area can cool down in its spacious swimming pool or splash with the kids at the 2500 square-foot splash park that opened during the summer of 2011. Resort guests have access to a private military-only beach less than three miles from the resort and can rent pontoons, kayaks and wave runners from the on-site full-service marina. Deep-sea fishing charters and sight-seeing tours can also be scheduled from the marina.
Other resort amenities include boat storage, a conference facility, playgrounds, picnic facilities, bike rental, fitness center and Internet access for an additional fee. Guests with a valid Florida fishing license may fish from the resort’s 300-foot pier and enjoy seasonal crabbing from it as well.
Active duty service members may make reservations at the Destin Army Recreation Area six months in advance, while other guests may reserve accommodations four months in advance.
